Your Guide to an Earthy Chic Wedding No Matter the Season

“There is no better designer than nature.”

- Alexander McQueen

We couldn’t have said it better if we tried.

While there are a lot of wedding trends that come and go, there’s one in particular that we think will remain for years to come:

An earthy and organic wedding style.

Why?

Because there’s nothing better than channeling Mother Nature when designing your big day, bringing together fresh, natural, minimalistic elements that truly work their magic to create an elevated experience.

So, if that speaks to you, today, we’re sharing a guide to help you bring your earthy chic wedding vision to life—no matter the season.

Choose your earthy color palette.

Your wedding colors set the vibe for your entire day. So, what first comes to mind when you think of an earthy wedding? Maybe super soft neutrals. And while that may be true, we encourage you to step outside of the box with either muted earth tones or jewel tones depending on the season.

Muted earth tones often include clay gray, soft blue, burnt orange, jade green, terra cotta, deep salmon and camel, yellow gold, bronze, rose, and peach. As for jewel tones? Think copper, amethyst, black, emerald, midnight blue, teal, and garnet.

Find ways to incorporate organic textures.

A seriously memorable wedding style is all in the details. And by details, we’re talking about organic textures. Think polished marble, rough stone, cement, brick, leather, hammered metal, and wood. Yes, your venue can often help cover some of those bases, especially if you’re celebrating in a historic downtown building or backyard barn. But, if you need a little help bringing your earthy chic day to life, consider weaving some texture into your:

  • Table settings—wood tables and decór, cement candleholders, marble table numbers, and layered plates.

  • Escort cards—yes, you can always go with paper, but why not take your escort cards to the next level with agate stone or oyster shells?

  • Cake—if you decide to have a traditional dessert, there are so many ways your cake designer can bring some delicious texture to the table! From watercolor fondant to fine icing lines used to create the illusion of tree bark, you may find it slightly too pretty to eat.

  • Furniture—we’re still here for the furniture trend at wedding ceremonies and receptions. And not just because it creates a super cozy, relaxed atmosphere. It also brings unique finishes into the picture, such as engraved wood, black iron, and rattan.

  • Ceremony altar—let’s, just for a minute, envision how dreamy it would be to say “I Do” in front of a birch branch arch with loads of greenery and a macrame hanging. What we’re getting at is, don’t be shy about working with a few different materials and textures to create a unique ceremony space.

  • Wedding stationery—add depth and dimension to your paperie by incorporating hand-painted watercolor designs and writing, a leather belly band, or maybe even a simple yet classic wax seal.

Go green.

No, we’re not talking about going eco-friendly. Instead, we’re talking about going full-on green with your floral design. Where do you even begin? Start with exploring slightly asymmetrical, loose, cascading bouquet options with seasonal florals that provide such rich texture they’ll have heads turning. Then, think about your ceremony and reception space. Maybe you toss in geometric terrariums, pampas grass, or foraged leaves. Just have fun with leafy greens and foliage because, when you do, you’ll create an airy, creative wedding atmosphere.

Select a farm-to-table menu.

Want to take your earthy chic wedding to another level? Sure you do. And we can’t think of a better way to do just that than by working with your preferred caterer to select a farm-to-table menu to serve up even more organic, natural, fresh goodness at your reception.

Not only will it showcase the tastes of the season, but it’ll also allow your out-of-town guests to experience sustainable, locally-sourced options. You can even consider featuring wines, ciders, beers, and mixed drink ingredients (such as herbs and botanicals) that are locally-sourced on your signature menu.
