Three Ways to Infuse Intention Into Your Wedding Day

Intention is defined as, “a thing intended; an aim or a plan.” Beyond trends, the latest viral dance on TikTok performed by wedding parties, or whatever that must-have or must-do thing is currently flooding the wedding world… we give you permission to ignore it completely. Yup, that’s right. Who wants trends when you have intention instead?

Our core values as wedding planners here at Pinch Me Planning centralize around infusing intention into everything on your wedding day. No couple is the same. Each love story is unique and personal and should be celebrated as such. Don’t sell your love story short by complying with trends that will fade. Instead, take a long look at what sets you and your spouse apart  — and go all-in on THAT.

To help you silence outside chatter as you plan your wedding, we want to share three ways to infuse intention into your wedding day. Ready? Let’s do it.

Consider Having an Unplugged Ceremony

We went there. But hang with us, and picture this: a phone-free ceremony. No friends and family trying to capture the perfect iPhone shot but instead everyone collectively living in the moment. Watching without distraction. While your guests snapping pictures and filming Instagram stories may mean well, how much better would it be if they weren’t sharing about your day in real-time. But focused on being present instead? We’re passionate about presence over perfection — not only for you as a couple, but for your guests in attendance, too.

We know that an unplugged ceremony is not for everyone. We are also not blind to the fact that Zoom weddings are still very much a thing in the midst of the pandemic. We are simply encouraging you and your spouse to think about your day and how you want it to be. We also love to remind our couples that they hire a photographer and videographer to capture the sweet moments of the day, so friends and family don’t have to. Be free from the urge to share in real-time, and let your guest live in the moment with you instead!

Infuse Details Specific to You as a Couple

The most memorable details of any wedding day are those that are set apart. The details that only those closest to you will understand and identify as part of your story as a couple.

Some fun ways to infuse details specific to you as a couple include thinking through key dates and formative moments in your relationship to tie those into the day. Did you go to the same restaurant in your college town for each anniversary? Centralize your dinner menu with dishes inspired by your favorite menu items. Did your spouse buy you a drink in an overcrowded downtown bar to ask you out? There’s a signature cocktail for that! Are you passionate about donuts, or beignets, or really good lobster? Let’s work that into the dessert bar or guest gift to invite everyone into the story of your love that was pre-marriage, only to continue post-marriage.

What sets you, as a couple, apart? Those *things* are the details everyone will cherish most on the day of your wedding! And when hiring PMP for design, we brainstorm together to turn those special moments from your relationship into wedding day details to seamlessly coordinate and execute those details that you decide to infuse.

Build-in One-on-One Time With Your Spouse

On your wedding day, there will be moments that you simply want to freeze in time to enjoy a bit longer. It is our job to help you build in time with your spouse, one-on-one, to soak in the day and create those time-stopping moments, too. The fun, the laughter, the hilarious dance moves and more, are all shared in the experience of your wedding day — by you as a couple and those in attendance, too. To seemingly freeze all the moments that you possibly can as a couple, we recommend that you plan a few moments to sneak away together — they can be short and sweet — but without them, the day can fly by and you can feel like you lost track of your spouse completely after the ceremony. To combat that, here are three simple ways to build in alone time on your wedding day:

  1. Share a sweet moment alone right after you walk down the aisle.  Walk straight to your honeymoon suite or private room at your venue. Take a moment to reflect and celebrate the nuptials you just shared. You can opt to have the photographer present to capture the moments immediately following becoming Mr. and Mrs. — or you can simply be. Just the two of you.

  2. Eat dinner privately at a sweetheart table. It’s an opportunity to take a break from the, “Hey, how are you?!” and enjoy the meal you selected in your tasting. Your guests will hardly notice you’re gone. And you and your spouse will not only eat (sometimes a much more challenging feat during the wedding than one would think) but also enjoy a mini-date night amid your wedding day, too.

  3. This last one, we love: plan a solo last dance. Just you and the band or music to savor the fleeting moments before your exit. This dance gives you time to revel in your wedding day (& offers an amazing photo op for your photographer and videographer, too).

We’ve helped tons of couples create unique one-on-one time on their wedding days! This time allows you and your spouse to really sink into the day for a few minutes. And couples we’ve worked with have never once regretted planning some time to themselves!
